Lung Surgery

I am scheduled to have lung surgery, to remove the nodule, on September the 30th. Today I meet with the surgeon’s nurse, anesthetist, and my cancer doctor. Even though I had to meet with all of these people, I have good news to share :) The good news is that the MRI of my brain, CT scan, and bone marrow biopsy show nothing for the doctors to be concerned about. This means that they are focusing on this one nodule on my right lung. My prayer is this surgery can be accomplished with three inserts into my body. If it can be done in this way, it is more likely that I will be able to leave the hospital the same day of surgery. And I would appreciate your prayers as well.

peace,
Nathan

Chest Scan

Greetings All,

Nathan’s chest Scan was today, Monday, September 22, 2008. The results revealed that the nodule in the right lung has doubled in size since his last Scans in June. The doctor is recommending removing this growth surgically since it is not possible to know whether it is a fungus or part of the cancer that has started to grow. The doctor did a bone marrow biopsy today and has scheduled a brain MRI for tomorrow (Tuesday) and a pelvis/abdomen Scan for Friday. These are all precautionary measures to make sure the disease is not in these areas. Following these tests, the plan is to have the mass growing in the right lung removed. Needless to say, this was disappointing news for us. We hope the nodule growing in the right lung is a fungus, however, if it is the recurrence of the cancer, removing it now can prevent it from spreading. Thank you for keeping Nathan and us in your prayers.
