Closer To Being Done

I made it through my second week of cycle number nine without getting sick and I am now entering my third week with a fair amount of energy. This past weekend I was at Hesston College for my sister’s graduation. The weather remained nice enough to have a wonderful picnic in the park with a few friends. Over all we had a nice trip, even though it was much too quick.

A couple of weekends ago, I was in Goshen for their graduation. It was a lot of fun to see many of my friends walk across the stage in their black gowns to receive their diplomas. While I wish I could have been one of them, I am looking forward to making the walk next year. I will be going back to Goshen this weekend (5/14) for a concert put on by Thirstborne. Goshen College and Thirstborne have decided to put on the concert to raise money for my medical expenses. All are welcomed.

I have just recently begun a count down of the weeks until my last treatment, which means that for the first time I can actually see a speck of light at the end of a dark, dark tunnel. In eight weeks I will be receiving my last treatment. The excitement of finishing is beginning to build.

Peace,
Nathan

Hi Nathan,
I just want you to know what a blessing you are to us. We know you must have bad days and weeks, and no one wants you to feel like you have to pretend that you don't. But I have to tell you, when you tell us that you have had a bad week, it re-energizes my prayer time, it reminds me that yes I do need to keep praying because you never know what will happen. We want to know your ups and downs so that we can see how God is working in your life...remember what Job went through, and yet the whole story is there, not just the pretty parts.
So keep up your spirits, but don't be afraid to share your pains and your sorrow...everyone needs to vent, and that's what we are here for (to listen).
Anyways, I just want you to know what a joy it is to have you as a part of our family (our physical and our spiritual family). You encourage me to keep going and hoping even though times seem bad, or there seems to be no more hope. We love you Nathan, and we hope that you continue to keep that smile (even if it is way down deep inside of you), cause that smile will be what keeps your mind healthy...even though your body is struggling.
Well, it's time to get back to work...but keep your hopes up and get lots of that fresh country air! We'll keep praying for you and you make sure to keep us informed...even on the bad days (when you can).
We love you and we miss you!

Good evening, Nathan,
Wish I could join you on Saturday night for the concert but I am attending the 125th anniversary event at the church I attended the first 12 years of my life.
Howevern, my thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you.
I was happy to hear that this treatment was not as upsetting to your system. It is also great to hear that the number of treatments is shrinking. Blessings Sharon

Hi Nathan: We just read your update and just want you to know we care. We are glad you could go to Hesston and Goshen. Even though we see you about every week in church, we don't always get to talk to you. Hang in there. You have a lot of prayer support. Even the TV news casts have reports on the power of prayer in the healing process. They say it works. WOW.

Dear Nathan, Thank you for your example of persevering faith! I was reading my devotions this morning and this poem I thought was really good. " I cannot know why suddenly the storm should rage so fiercely around me in its wrath; But this I know-God watches all my path, And I can trust! I may not draw aside the mystic veil that hides the unknown future from my sight, Nor know if for me waits the dark or light, But I can trust! I have no power to look across the tide, To see while here the land beyond the river; But this I know-I shall be God's forever; So I can trust! We continue to pray in FAITH that GOD will heal you for his glory! Your cousin, Mike, Shannon, Kayla, and Austin.

Nathan, What a gifted writer you are. Is journalism your major?! Appreciated hearing of your progress and that there's light at thte end of the tunnel of treatment. Please continue to tell it like it is, so we can pray specifically for all your needs. Its a way that GOd is also growing us to be better Barnabuses! (I did cry as I read through you entries. Just discovered your blog sight from the MWR article, but have been praying for you since last fall when our daughter came home from Hesston asking for prayer for you. May God do His miracle of restoring health to your bones and marrow. Amen.
