Good News

Hello with a blessing from God!

This past Monday (12/17/07), I had my scheduled MRI and CT scans. Once again it was a long day of waiting and waiting. But, the good news was worth the wait. In the late afternoon, my doctors came in to let me know that there is nothing that the scans could show for them to be concerned about. This is great news! And what is even better, my last treatment was almost two years ago. With the type of cancer I had, this is a really good sign! It is a wonderful Christmas gift from God!

Today’s sermon was on finding God even in the challenging times of our lives. Going though the treatment was a very challenging part of my life. But, even though it has been a major challenge, during the treatment and now, I have felt very blessed by God. And I thank God for each and every new breath that I can breath. For, it is through God’s grace that I am able to find peace within the pain, and through God I am healed.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas, may we all find peace in every aspect of life,
Nathan

That truly is fantastic news! What a Christmas gift. I hope you and your family have had a great Christmas season, filled with blessings.

I've been sending around the word to the SALTers that a reunion might be in order this summer. What do you think?

Hi Nathan,

I had read some things on your BLOG before, but never posted before. I was reviewing a book that compiled the writings of the BLOG Brent Zehr started as he dealt with cancer: Brentjourney.blogspot ,and I discovered how you inspired him to share his journey because of your sharing on this BLOG.

I read a note from you when you were in collage where you said "some things I learned from this experience":
1. God will never leave me/us.
2. When we keep our eyes on God, God’s power will help us accomplish more than we can even think possible.
3. It is important to love yourself as God loves you.
4. It is important to spend time with others/to love them as God loves us.
5. Doctors are important, but God is more important.
6. Even sick people have a meaning on Earth.
7. It is important to find joy when you are sick.
8. Prayer is a powerful connection we have with God.
9. My story has affected more people than only me. And I want to take this time to hear how it has positively affected you.

When I got to the last one, I thought I had to share what Brent shared when he started his BLOG http://brentjourney.blogspot.com :
"I got inspired to set up this blog, from another blog by Nathan Detweiler and his parents /friends (http://nathanstory.blogspot.com/). Nathan has the same sarcoma type, but it had spread into his lump node system; and in many ways was a more difficult case than mine. I was really inspired to read how his cancer had responded to chemo and how he fought through many obstacles to survive and graduate from Goshen College; including a stem cell transplant procedure. Just reading his experiences over a 2 year period gives hope that something may work out and we must never give up. Another aspect of Nathan's blog which has been especially moving, is how much his experience has brought him closer to God and taught him to rely on God for strength. His faith is inspiring; as is his ability to find joy even in the lowest moments. Following this example, it is time for me to more earnestly seek God's guidance and use this experience to grow in faithfulness and trust in Him. I realize that once I achieve this, a calmness will come over me and I will be at peace."

As you may know, Brent had a different result from his journey, but he inspired many people because of his following your inspiration to start his own BLOG. If anyone wants a copy of the book containing Brent's journey, please email his father John at Zjbz@aol.com. and identify your request on the subject line as: Brent' Journey.

Nathan, you have been a huge inspiration to me in helping me understand how God can work miracles. In starting a new business, I have often been faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges and God always has provided answers and courage. Whenever I think of how God worked in your difficult circumstances, I know he can deal with the minor bumps in my road!
I remember the last ski trip we took together to Colorado. You and Jarrod rode back with us and we had some discussions about God, faith, and your time in S. America. At that time I thought God had great things planned for you to be an ambassador for Him because of the mature faith you exhibited for a young man, but I never realized His plans included a "Job like" test of that faith. I am so pleased that like Job, your faith in God prevailed.

Remember someday we need to go on another ski trip together! Our next Colorado trip is 1/4-8/2009!

May God continue to bless you with good health.

Your friend,
Bob Miller
