Good News

Hello

The Easter weekend hit me and my family very hard as I had a seizer Sunday morning. I was at my Dad’s parents in Claridon, Ohio and rushed to the hospital by ambulance to the Burton, hospital. After hearing the news my parents were able to find a private plane to fly me back to Iowa so that I could see my doctors from the U of I Hospital on Monday. This whole event of having another seizer was very unnerving for my family and I felt fortunate that my sister and aunt were in the hospital with me as the Burton doctor gave me a brief overview to make sure that I had not broken anything during my seizer, which lasted for one minute. Fortunately, I did not have any immediate injuries and was able to go back to my grandparent’s house by the early afternoon. I also need to thank one of my uncles for driving me to the airport in Cleveland. The amazing part is that the plane ride back home only took two hours.

After receiving the MRI and CT scans on Monday the 9th I received great news from my U of I doctors. They could find nothing to be concerned about in my brain! Rather than having a problem once again with cancer, I was told that it could have been stress, lack of sleep, or a number of other changes that cause seizers. I was told that anyone can have a seizer if they are put under the right circumstance. It is just that I am now more likely to have a seizer than other people because of the treatments I have received. This is great news!

I am currently finishing up my school work and will actually be graduating from Goshen in a little over one week! This is also very exciting and I consider it to be a great accomplishment!

Once again, I thank everyone who is praying for me, thinking of me, and continuing to stay in contact through the blog. I know I have not kept it that up to date, but that only means that I have not been facing a lot of health issues lately.

With peace and comfort,
Nathan

Nathan,
I have read your blog, from 2004 to latest entry with great interest. I had also attended Goshen College many years ago, and at age 45 was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma. I started noticing a lump in my left leg one year ago, and had surgery with diagnosis of the tumor type in late August. Now (mid-May CT scans), after 32 radiation treamtent on the surgical site, and 12 rounds of chemotherapy, we are sorry to learn that there is likely spread into my lungs (my CT scans were clean in Jan.); which means that the chemo has not been effective. We will find out more over the next week, and see what other options exist. I would like to have a chance to talk to you, but don't know how to contact other than respond to your blog. Anyway, your blog has been inspiring to me, and I am thinking of starting one myself now.
