Signs Of Hope

Dear Friends, we would like to give you a quick update on Nathan. He had another Chemo treatment as well as a CT scan on Monday, Dec. 13. We meet with the dr. next Monday, the 20th, to hear the final results and to discuss the continuation of Nathan’s treatment plan. As you continue to pray for Nathan’s ongoing healing, also give thanks to God for the signs of hope we see. We are thankful the tumors are shrinking; that Nathan has not taken pain medication since Dec.1; that he is eating better – this week he ate a 6 inch steak and cheese sandwich at Subway!! We also give thanks to God because this week he feels good enough and was able to go to Hesston, Kansas – 8 hrs away – (today) to visit a special friend. Remember Monday’s meeting with the dr. in your prayers. If we stay with the same treatment plan, Nathan will possibly be getting his “big” chemo treatment on Monday as well. Thank you to all who are blanketing our family with prayers. Your prayers give us hope this Christmas season.

Thank you for the update, Tim and Carol. We rejoice with you in the signs of hope. What good news that Nathan is eating better, and feels good enough to travel!
You are in our prayers often, and may this season of hope continue to fill you and give you confidence that God is at work.
I check the blog often, hoping to hear good news, and today I was rewarded!

Hello Nathan and family:

Keith Zehr here from snowy Akron NY. I posted a comment earlier, but computers and I are like Mennonites and dancing - we don't always get along the best, and my earlier comment is buried somewhere way in the past. So I will try this again, and if you're reading it for the second time, then you get to read it twice!

Nathan, we rejoice at your attitude, spiritual growth, and courage over this time. I remember Rolland Smith telling me at the last Dinner Theater how much closer to God he has felt since being diagnosed with cancer. I also remember selfishly thinking that I hope I never have to get close to God for that reason. You are a great example to us on how perhaps we all need to be humbled just a bit.

I have a favorite Nathan story to tell. Back in January of 1994 when we first moved to Iowa, it was bitterly cold and were very glad for everyone's help in unloading our moving truck. Nathan was in 6th grade at the time and was one of the hard working volunteers. It was my job to stay in the house and tell everyone where to put the boxes as they came off the truck. For a practical joke, a friend of ours in Buffalo had written comments on the side of some of the boxes as to what they contained. They were written purely for the sake of humor. Picking up one of these boxes and carrying it in, Nathan innocently asked in front of everyone: "What do you want me to do with this box of false IRS tax returns?"

It was a great moment and one we will always remember! Blessings to your family during this time and over the Christmas season.

Nathan,

I have been reading this from the beginning and am continuously amazed at your attitude and faith throughout this journey. Your constant trust in the Lord and your positive attitude have brought tears to my eyes more than once and I wonder if I would be able to do the same in your situation. You are an inspiration to me and have encouraged my faith. I am glad to read that you have been feeling better this week. I hope the next week will be just as good, even better. You and your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Nathan,

I want to let you know that we are praying for you and your family. Bonnie and I have been friends of your parents all the way back to their Hesston College years. We wish and pray that each day you will be able to perceive God's presence and blessings.
